A parent reached out to me this morning asking about summer resources for their student. One of my favorites is the "Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills" workbook by Thinking Kids. The workbooks are leveled for pre-k through 6th grade. They're available on Amazon, carsondellosa.com, and are typically at our local Sam's Club. If this is something you're interested in, make sure you preview the content before purchasing (in order to find the right fit for your student).
This was the BEST DAY EVER!!! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for all the kindness, support, and love. You guys are incredible. I love you!
Today one of my AM students told me about the Rivet app which is a reading app for kids ages 6-12. I haven’t downloaded it yet, but I’ve been researching it this afternoon. It looks like it could be a great tool for families – something to consider.
Info for parents who may be interested:
There are more than 3500+ books and 8 different reading levels. Interactive reading support allows your student to read to the app and get help on tricky words. Kids can earn badges and rewards when they hit reading milestones. They can also play games, rate and review books, and get personalized book recommendations. The app also has book categories and personalization for users. Kids can tap a word to get reading help; they also have access to definitions and translations. There’s also real-time feedback which means that if the child misreads a word, the app will offer the correct word. There are also options for readers to follow along and listen to the text while the app reads to the student (the words are highlighted on the screen as the app reads them).
Rivet works on Android smartphones and tablets, Chromebooks, iPhones and iPads, and Kindle Fire. Devices must be running either Android 5.0, iOS 9.0, Fire OS 5.0 or higher.
The app is FREE and it’s called… Rivet: Better Reading Practice For Kids
Mrs. Oakey & Mrs. Broadhurst have a pretty fantastic new PE website they've set up. It has videos with all sorts of fun activities for kindergarteners like:
There are also videos and activities for middle school students as well as adults. Enjoy!
We love you, we appreciate you, and we miss you! Thank you for all you have done for our class this year.
Mrs. Broadhurst is another one of our PE teachers on campus. She teaches the older students and has provided a packet for anyone who's interested in more ideas for how to stay active. Enjoy!
This is me when I was in kindergarten. It was Career Day, and I was dressed as a teacher. Teachers had already made a big difference in my life.
Thank you to all the terrific teachers I've had through the years -- especially Mr. Byarushengo and Mr. Pyke. And to the best teachers of all: Mom & Dad. I love you!
Scholastic has created a pop-up shop where you can order books using our classroom code, but the books will be shipped straight to your home. How wonderful is that?!
Our classroom code: P62V3
