The latest Scholastic fliers came home last week -- including the holiday catalog.

Two days ago, Mr. Bingham visited our classroom and taught us the valuable social skill of paying attention. He taught the class that when their eyes are on the teacher (whether we’re in the classroom or walking in the hallway) that they will be the most successful. He encouraged the students to “practice, practice, practice.” He also read the students a fun story called Grover and the Everything in the Whole Wide World Museum—a story where Grover doesn’t always have his eyes where they should be.
A lot of parents worry about their kindergartener's reversal of numbers and letters. Though this is common in kindergarten (and often into first grade as well), I always tell parents that they know their child best and that they should listen to their gut if they are worried about a learning disorder such as dyslexia. Become familiar with the symptoms, causes, and risk factors. Then, if your worries persist, contact your pediatrician for further clarification and guidance.
You can read a Mayo Clinic overview of dyslexia's symptoms, causes, and risk factors by clicking here. For added insight, feel free to read the article below which was written by author Michael Hall who (as a child) was diagnosed with dyslexia. To all the parents who made this party possible (especially the head room parents) ... THANK YOU for all of your hard work. The kids had a blast. ( Photo releases were signed at the beginning of the year in order for student photos to be published on our blog. ) Mrs. Broadhurst is THE COOLEST. She has been teaching us some Thriller moves in PE. Check out our slideshow! ( Photo releases were signed at the beginning of the year in order for student photos to be published on our blog. ) Earlier this month we also got to use a rainbow parachute
to do some fun activities. In this photo, all the students are inside the parachute. We love PE! One of my favorite "scary" stories for kindergarteners is The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams. Like R. L. Stine says in the article below, "It''s fun. It's a thrill." And we're "safe and sound at the story's end."
I went to the Pumpkin Walk today and saw two of our class's favorite books --
The Kissing Hand and Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type. So cute! Enjoy the rest of Fall Break, everyone! It feels like Christmas came early. Look at all these FREE books that arrived today from Scholastic! This is their way of thanking you for the orders you place online at our class's online book store. Now we have even more great books to read to your students during story time. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Parent Teacher Conferences were great. Thank you for your support. And thank you to the families that surprised me with new books for our classroom!! These are fantastic. We will read our new books during groups next week.
Have a wonderful Fall Break! |
