Head Room Parent
The head room parent plays a vital role in our classroom--especially during class parties. They help our students make FUN memories! Below you'll find answers to frequently asked questions about this volunteer position.
What is the "head room parent" responsible for?
Who can I contact with questions about the "head room parent" position?
The P.O. is a great support to our room parents. You can also come to Mrs. Hadsell anytime for help and support.
Can I send notes home to other families when I'm planning class parties, etc?
Yes. But please note that all written communication must be approved by Mrs. Kirk (principal) before it is sent out to families. You can drop off a hard copy at the office or email Mrs. Kirk directly. Keep the following in mind as you seek approval on notes home:
1. Please give Mrs. Kirk ample time to approve your notes.
2. Include Mrs. Hadsell's name on all communication so that parents with multiple children will know which classroom your note came from.
3. Please provide 3 copies of your note to the office. These copies are distributed to the secretaries.
Does our classroom have a budget for class parties?
Yes. Double check with the PO on this year's budget, but it is usually $40 per party. To receive reimbursement, three items are required:
1. Receipt(s)
2. Reimbursement form (see the office or the PO for a copy)
3. Signature of the head room parent
Staple the three items together and submit them to the PO Board representative at the office immediately before/after the party. Receipts may be turned in for up to two weeks following each event. No reimbursements will be issued if submitted after this deadline.
Reimbursement checks will be written and signed right after the Winter Party and End of Year Party. Visit the front reception area if you would like to be reimbursed quickly.
* Please make arrangements before the party to have one person make ALL purchases. Only one individual should submit a reimbursement form per party.
Can I ask for donations from local businesses for our events?
No. The PO Board gathers donations from businesses throughout the valley for our silent auction at the Fall Festival and other events during the year. A business will only donate a few times, so if they donate to room parents they will likely not donate to the PO Board.
Can I ask parents from our class to donate items for our events?
Yes. Please use our budget for class parties first and then you can make requests for additional items from families within our class.
What is the "head room parent" responsible for?
- Assembling a Fall Festival themed basket--They get to choose the theme and gather donations from parents within our classroom.
- Fall Festival activity booth for our class
- Organize 4 class parties: Fall Party (October); Winter Party (December); Kindergarten Friendship Party (February); End of Year Party (May)
- Track & Field Day (in grades 1-8): They help plan, organize, and run activities for this fun event
