Summer Learning
We make incredible progress in the course of our kindergarten year. I frequently get questions from parents about how to help students keep their skills sharp over the summer. The great news... it doesn't have to be complicated.
Read
1. Read aloud to your student.
2. Encourage your student to continue reading independently.

- Schedule regular trips to the library so there's always something new to read.
- Consider joining a summer reading club.
Write
Create opportunities for your student to write.
1. Let your student write in a journal, write a letter to a loved one, or write and illustrate their own story.
2. Purchase an inexpensive workbook with ready-to-go activities. My favorite: The "Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills" workbook by Thinking Kids. You can find it on Amazon, the Carson Dellosa Education website, and frequently at our local Sam's Club. These workbooks are leveled for pre-k through 6th grade and they offer activities in multiple subjects -- math, reading, writing, and more. Just make sure that you preview the content before purchasing (in order to find the right fit for your student). Great stuff!
