The Next 10-Hour Course September 7, 14, 21, 28 & October 5 6:00 - 8:00 pm Taught at North Campus by Heather Hansen The "Parent Introduction to Spalding" course is an incredible resource for parents. There's simply no better way to learn the basics about the Spalding program and be better equipped to help students at home. This course provides an overview of The Spalding Method® so that parents and children can work together to support classroom instruction. Helping at home accelerates children's learning and enables parents to keep track of school progress. Reading is the foundation of all learning, and the first step to reading is learning that words are made of up sounds (phonograms).
The purpose of the Parent Spalding course is to provide parents with the knowledge and skills necessary to support classroom instruction of The Spalding Method®. The course will teach parents to: 1. Say and write the 70 phonograms. 2. Use the phonograms to say and write high-frequency words. 3. Apply spelling and language rules and concepts. 4. Model reading words for spelling and for reading. As a general rule, siblings are not allowed on the field trip - especially if you're an official chaperone. But please read the details below for more information.
We're looking for: 1. Official chaperones: Parents who will be in charge of a small group of students for the entire field trip (including the bus ride). Admission to the zoo will be FREE for these chaperones. Official chaperones may not bring younger siblings since they will be riding the bus with us and will have supervisory duties. Thanks for understanding! 2. Additional volunteers: Parents who will drive themselves to the zoo, pay for their own admission ($6), and offer extra help/supervision throughout the day. These parents may bring younger siblings if other arrangements can't be made- this is because they will not have direct supervisory duties and will not be riding the bus with us. 3. Food donations: Parents who can donate requested items for the students' field trip snack. It's College Week at TECS, and we served Aggie ice cream to the entire student body. Check out these smiles!
